The Vatnajökull ice cap is the largest in Iceland, covering approximately ten percent of the country. These beautiful blue chunks of ice break off from a tongue of the ice cap into the Jökulsarlon glacial lagoon, where they eventually float out to sea.
The pounding surf of the North Atlantic breaks up the pieces of ice and washes them ashore, where they become stranded on the black sands of the iconic Diamond Beach.
A witness of time and history, the ice may be thousands of years old, a sight to behold and admire as they glisten in the early morning light before melting and disappearing forever.
